Who exactly is a native British English speaker nowadays?

‘You must be joking’, my British colleague quipped ten years ago, when I told her that the Asian market for market research had become as competitive as the European one. While my native language is Dutch, I got the message: the way she pronounced ‘joooooking’ made it clear that she did not regard my assessment as funny at all, just plain stupid. I haven’t repeated my opinion on the subject in public since then.
